Training Your Biting Puppy

Monday, January 26th, 2009

When you bring that lovable puppy home, he is a rambunctious and loving personality.

What he lacks is discipline and that is where you come in.

You want to satisfy your end of the deal. Dogs are often the most lovable of creatures, intrinsically constant, fun loving, comforting and comical.

However, you have got to face the indisputable fact that dogs are permanent 3 year olds, re discipline. That is the reason why an early program of coaching is vital. It’s up to you to let your little dog know what’s expected of him in the behavioral class. From his perspective, he is in a consistent state of having a great time. He does not know good from bad behaviour. One of the commonest dog behaviors you will need to curb is the biting puppy syndrome. Puppies enjoy gnawing on everything, as any dog owner can attest. The biting puppy could have a pleasurable session with your fave slippers, a book or a tasty bone. He does not realize there is a difference, unless you tell him.

The biting puppy, unbridled, will turn into a biting dog, landing you and him in an entire bunch of difficulty. Getting a biting puppy to grasp the limitations is truly quite easy. Where do you draw the line? Biting food items and bones is a good rule. If you let him bite an old, worn out pair of slippers, you are giving him a license to bite and gnaw up a selection of home items. He will not tell the difference between things which are OK to bite and those which are not. Puppies, while teething, are susceptible to be biting puppies.

However lovable you may think his decimation of yesterday’s paper, you have got to put your foot down. Dogs only understand rules re the comprehensive. In the case of inanimate objects, a rolled up paper, with a pointy noise report, will get your message across. You should hold in reserve the most heavy punishment for infractions which involve your little puppy biting a human. Regardless of how fun loving, short of ill will or whatever, a puppy must be dissuaded from the concept biting a human is satisfactory. Let’s imagine your child comes to a decision to share some fat scraps from her dinner plate with her puppy. He is actually raring to share in this largess, coincidentally biting her in his haste. To soon and undeniably nip the biting puppy behavior, you have got to come down on him hard. A sharp smack on the nose, removal of the food and the dog version of a break is what you want to foist. Slip his leash on and give him a taste of isolation out on the porch, together with a firm ‘bad dog’. This is language and action he’ll understand. He’ll know that his behavior ended in a physical punishment, loss of the required item and isolation from his folks.

Using this system, you can efficiently train your biting puppy right from his bad habit. When he is half a year old, you may have a permanent child dog who knows his constraints.
